About Chisholm

Home to former olympic athletes, war heroes, and Doc “Moonlight” Graham, Chisholm is bursting at the seams with history. Located just 7 minutes East of Hibbing, Minnesota and 25 minutes West of Virginia, Minnesota, Chisholm is the perfect spot to access the Iron Range’s full experience.

Located in the middle of the Mesabi Range, Chisholm’s Iron Man statue marks a significant tribute to the mining history of the area. This monument represents the hard work and strength that local workers contributed to the growth of the mining industry. Mining iron ore in Northern Minnesota made a significant impact on the American production of steel for many generations.

Longyear Lake

Have you ever wondered what day the ice opens on the lake in Chisholm? You can place you wager for a chance to win! Every year, Chisholm places a giant bobber on the lake and residents place guesses regarding when the bobber will drop into the open lake again. Tickets can be purchased through the Chisholm Band Boosters for the Bobber on the Lake Raffle. To find out more information regarding where and when to place your bets, contact the Chisholm High School Band Director.

Chisholm is home to a lake walk that wraps all around Longyear Lake located right off the downtown area. The morning is the best time to experience the quietness of the lake. Every season, the lake has something wonderful to offer. With natural apple trees scattered along the path, the spring’s blossoms are gorgeous, while the fall can smell like an orchard. During the winter, the city plows the lake path so that walkers can still enjoy their exercise. With scattered doggie bag stations along the path, it’s also a great place to bring man’s best friend.

The frisbee golf course, located on the south side of the lake is the perfect summer time activity to appreciate the sunshine. Chisholm has a few permanent docks on Longyear Lake where you will find spring and summer fishermen trying their luck at catching northerns. Taking your lawn chair and tackle down to the dock is a great place to enjoy a sunset on the water.
